Letter from Dean Pam Jansma
Congratulations to the outstanding students, staff, and faculty members who were recognized with awards this past Friday at the CLAS Dean’s Awards Ceremony. We also celebrated those faculty and staff who are retiring this year. We’re grateful for all their contributions to the university and their respective fields and communities and wish them well in their new adventures. You’ll find photos and short bios for all the retirees and awardees, including CLAS faculty and staff who won university awards, on this website.
As a recap of some of our activities this year: CLAS had the highest year ever in terms of research dollars received from externally funded grants as well as research expenditures. We also developed 3 new degree programs, each of which we anticipate will generate excitement for potentially new students to CLAS and CU Denver: 1) BA/BS in Climate Change Studies (we think the first degree of its kind in the country); 2) MS in Psychopharmacology to leverage recent legislation passed in Colorado allowing Clinical Psychologists to prescribe medication); and 3) Bachelor of Applied Science in Professional Studies to provide a pathway for those with Associates of Applied Science to transition seamlessly to four year degrees). And stay tuned…we have a couple more in progress that we hope to move forward in the coming academic year.
Finally, congratulations to all of our graduating students. We all are looking forward to commencement on Saturday. Thank you to all our staff and faculty who make sure that our students are successful on their journeys to their degrees. This is why we are here and committed to providing a foundational liberal arts education that sets up our graduates to be life-long learners, to flourish in their chosen careers, and to nurture their futures.
I hope to see many of you at graduation. And, may you have some time to recharge and reset during the summer months.
