Online Consultations

New to Synchronous Online? Read our Starter Guide!

The Writing Center offers students whose schedules do not match those of our physical locations, or those who prefer to do their work from the comfort of home, the ability to work on their writing online with a consultant. As in the Center(s), all appointments are 50 minutes in length and require an appointment. This service is synchronous — students and consultants are online at the same time.

Important Note About Connecting While on Campus/Unsecure Networks:

If you try to join an online session while physically on the CU Denver or CU Anschutz campuses, you won't be able to enter the online rooms while connected to the open Auraria Campus or Guest wifi networks. You must be connected to an ethernet port (via a cord) or the CU Denver or CU Anschutz wifi network, which requires that you login with your username and password.

Unsecure public wifi networks almost universally present the same problem. Please make arrangements to be on a secure network when trying to use this service.

Available Monday — Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm, depending on location/schedule

To make a Daytime online appointment:

  • Sign into WCOnline and select one of our physical locations (except Auraria Library and Lynx Crossing Residence Hall). Click any available appointment. In the "Meet Online?" box, select "Yes. Schedule Live Online appointment."
  • After entering your personal and course/assignment information, attach a file or files at the bottom of the appointment pop-up window. If you're not ready to attach a file at the time you make an appointment, be sure to return before your appointment start time to do so.
  • At least 5 minutes before your appointment is set to begin, please login to WCOnline, select your appointment box, and click the red text that reads, "Start or Join Online Consultation." The consultant will join the online room at your scheduled session start time. NOTE: Each online consulting room is unique to each appointment, which means you can enter before your scheduled session (to get acquainted with the room or upload a file) or after your scheduled session (to see the whiteboard or chat portion of your session).
  • Important: It is your responsibility to login early enough to ensure that your technology and Internet connection are sufficient for the platform. If no student is present at :05 minutes after the hour -- regardless of reason -- the Consultant will mark the appointment as a "no-show" so that other students have the opportunity to schedule. If you will be running late, please note this in your appointment. If you are having difficulty with your technology or believe that the WCOnline servers may be experiencing a problem, locate the consultant's email address in the appointment pop-up box and send them a note. Consultants will only respond to messages during their scheduled shifts. If you have a question or concern outside of your scheduled appointment time, please email Writing.Center@ucdenver.edu
