Support for Remote/Online Teaching

The Writing Center is pleased to support faculty teaching/students learning in online and remote formats. Please expand the menus below to learn more.

Please encourage your online/remote students to view the Writing Center LTI page in the main menu of your Canvas course. If the page isn't visible by default, please go into Settings > Navigation and drag it up into your menu of published pages. On this page, students can learn the basics about Writing Center services/locations and view a short informational video.

If your online/remote course has required meeting times, a Professional Writing Consultant can join your Zoom meeting and lead an interactive seminar/workshop on the topic of your choice. We have numerous topics/concepts to choose from, or we'd be happy to custom-design content to meet your course needs. To request a Synchronous Zoom visit, please fill out our Class Visit/Workshop Request Form

If your online course has no required meeting times, one of the following options might work great for your students. Please email Writing.Center@ucdenver.edu to request asynchronous content/curriculum.

Introduction to Topic (Passive Instruction)

Request a link or embed code for one of the Writing Center's Knowmia (formerly TechSmith Relay) seminar videos (see Content Menu below) + provide students with a supplementary outline/content handout. Faculty manages student viewing/application to course learning.

Parallel to Course Instruction (Active Instruction)

In addition to the Introduction to Topic, request a supplementary quiz and/or activity for students to complete before or after viewing the seminar video. We can provide a stock activity for you to incorporate into a Canvas assignment or work with you to custom-design one that ranges in complexity from basic comprehension to reflection to application. Faculty manages student submission/evaluation process.

Replacement for Course Instruction (Active Instruction)

Request a custom-designed seminar video that more acutely acknowledges the content and learning context of your course. Incorporate a custom-designed activity that ranges in complexity from basic comprehension to reflection to application. Faculty manages student submission/evaluation process.
