Temporary Appointments

9-Month Temporary Hiring process

Note: Temporary hire must be hired on departmental funds unless you have received approval from the Dean's Office.

Types of Temporary Employees

Temporary hire questionnaires are reviewed by Central Human Resources. Job codes to use are provided below and will be approved upon review.  

Classified (job code P1A1XX)  Classified positions are governed by the State of Colorado and follow their classification and minimum qualifications procedures. Jobs in this series do not require a bachelor’s degree.

Professional (job code 2582) - In a professional position, the role involves the exercise of discretion, analytical skill, and judgment. Requires a bachelor’s degree, but an educational equivalency statement may be used in substitution of a degree.

Alternate Funding (job code 2702) - Grant, gift, and/or auxiliary funding. Jobs in this series do not require a bachelor’s degree.

Research (job code 1314) - Professional role with duties that involve conducting research. In a professional position, the role involves the exercise of discretion, analytical skill, and judgment. Requires a bachelor’s degree, but an educational equivalency statement may be used in substitution of a degree.

Additional Considerations:

  • 9 month temporaries are required to have a 4 month break before continuing in the same or similar position. 
  • A temporary position must be posted if it will exceed 9 months. 
  • A formal search process must be conducted when changing the position to permanent.
  • Any temporary hire hourly rate of $50 or more will be reviewed and approved by compensation to ensure we are maintaining internal equity with current employees in similar positions and are market competitive based on the job duties and minimum qualifications of the position. Please allow extra time for this process.
