Letter From Dean Pam Jansma
This is such an exciting time as everyone imagines what is possible.
The campus is buzzing with activity, the sun is setting earlier, and the temperatures are decreasing albeit not quite fast enough (of course, that perspective will change come January).
As we settle into our routines, I’d like to highlight just a few things.
We have three new programs on the books:
-
BA/BS in Climate Change Studies;
-
BAS in Professional Studies; and
-
MS in Psychopharmacology.
The first is an interdisciplinary degree that allows students to pursue the aspects of Climate Change Studies that interest them the most and prepare them for the careers that they imagine from basic science to social justice to policy. The second is designed to make obtaining a baccalaureate degree more feasible for those who completed their Associate of Applied Science by streamlining the transfer process. The third is for practicing Health Psychologists, who would like to be able to prescribe medication as part of a new law that was recently signed by Governor Polis to broaden availability of mental health support services across Colorado. We have a couple of other programs in development that we hope to bring forward this year.
2024 marks the 30th anniversary of our program at the International College Beijing of China Agricultural University
Celebrations will occur in Beijing in October and in Denver in November. The longevity is remarkable and a testament to the partnership that we have as well as the dedication and hard work of everyone involved at CAU and at CU Denver, including our colleagues in the Office of International Affairs.
Finally, we welcome Alex Freedman, Associate Director of Marketing and Communications, to CLAS.
He will work closely with Elly Lewis to highlight the wonderful things we do in the college to both an internal and external audience. Learn more about their 90-Day Action plan below.
Thank you for everything that you do each every day to serve our students and to make CLAS the truly remarkable place that it is.
