CLAS Now Accepting Application for Associate Dean for Faculty and Staff Affairs

The CLAS Dean’s Office invites tenured members of the College to apply for the position of Associate Dean for Faculty and Staff Affairs. This position serves as a member of the Dean’s senior leadership team to provide vision, leadership, and administrative oversight for faculty and staff mentoring, recruitment, training, and advancement. The primary purpose of the role is to support the faculty and staff of the college and to be deeply involved in issues surrounding individual development, promotion, conflict resolution, and grievances. The major aspects of the role are:

  1. to provide strategic vision with regard to faculty and staff recruitment, retention, and development;
  2. to oversee faculty processes involving reappointment, tenure, promotion, and post-tenure review;
  3. to interact effectively and collaboratively with other groups on campus that deal with faculty and staff issues.

The Associate Dean for Faculty and Staff Affairs is charged with broad issues of planning, recruitment, mentoring, retention, equity, and conflict and grievance resolution. Specific duties include:

·         Faculty Mentoring and Advancement (TTF and IRCF)

·         Reappointment, tenure and promotion for tenure-track faculty -- Chair, Dean’s Advisory Committee (DAC TTF)

·         Appointment, retention, and promotion for IRC faculty, including CTT and Instructors/Senior Instructors – Chair, Dean’s Advisory Committee for IRCF Personnel Decisions (DAC IRCF)

·         College lead on Interfolio RTP process

·         Sabbatical/Leave Requests

·         Post-Tenure Review

·         Oversight of primary unit criteria undergoing revision

·         Management of award and renewal of multi-year contracts for IRCF

·         Faculty Awards, including announcements, recruiting and oversight of award committees, communication with nominees and nominators, forwarding of winning files to Provost’s office

·         Graduate Student Awards (fall and spring semesters)

·         Assistance with Human Resource issues: contracts, benefits, and grievances

·         On-boarding new chairs

Committees: CLAS Leadership Team; AD/ASG; and CU Denver Faculty Assembly liaison
