Outstanding Undergraduate Award Applications Due September 22

In Fall 2020, the Health and Behavioral Sciences department will recognize up to two graduating students by awarding them "Outstanding Undergraduate in Public Health." This award is intended to honor Public Health majors who demonstrate an outstanding commitment to public health during their time at CU Denver. In addition to performing well in public health coursework, this commitment could be demonstrated through public health-related contributions to campus or the community and/or leadership in the Public Health program. Candidates may self-nominate or be nominated by faculty. Please reference the flyer below for more information about eligibility and how to apply or visit our website to learn more about last year's recipients. Submit your application by email to HBSAdminSupport@ucdenver.edu by September 22.

Public Health Clubs on Campus

CU Denver Public Health Association

CU Denver Public Health Association's first meeting of the semester is September 15th from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. Discussion will be focused around the cultural, political, and social structures that have influenced face coverings in pandemics. They will do a brief club overview for those interested in graduation cords, or those just looking to get involved in this field that's especially crucial during 2020. Bring a face mask to decorate, embroider, or paint together, or even make a new one out of an old t-shirt.

Global Health Action at Auraria

The next meeting of the Global Health Action at Auraria club will be on September 14th from 6:00 to 7:00pm. GHAA club meetings will be held every other Monday evening from 6-7pm throughout the semester (excluding holidays and finals week). During the next meeting, Patricia Annan will be giving a presentation on Economics and Health. More information will come closer to the meeting date on her specific topic with possible materials for the club to look over before the presentation. For more information, club member liaison Khoa Nguyen.

Public Health Tutoring

CU Denver's Learning Resource Center (LCR) has free tutoring available for PBHL 2001, 3001, and 3070. Students can sign up for appointments directly through Navigate. Tutors will work through practice problems with students that are similar but distinctly different from graded assignments. Tutors will also work with students to help clarify underlying concepts or strategies for studying. More information on how to sign up is available on our website or you can email the LRC with questions.

Online Workshops with Student Lingo

CU Denver is excited to announce the launch of Student Lingo. This resource if offered in addition to our long-standing Writing Center, there to help with your essays and research papers, and the Learning Resource Center, which provides tutoring for the most challenging classes as well as facilitated workshops on Zoom. Lingo has workshops around stress and time management, online communication, mental and emotional well-being, studying, and more.

Funding and Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers Needed for COVID-SMaRT

Want to help create and spread scientifically accurate COVID-19 messages via social media? The COVID-Social Media Response Team (COVID-SMaRT) welcomes students to help create infographics, visual Facebook posts, and simple interpretations of epidemiology stats to motivate behavior change and educate the public about the complex Epi concepts that are driving this Pandemic. We conduct all team activities remotely. Students interested in joining the COVID-SMaRT team should contact Dr. Molly Lamb at Molly.Lamb@cuanschutz.edu. 

Apply for a Mini-UROP by October 2

The Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) is a competitive grant program managed by the Office of Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities. UROP awards support original student-driven research, creative, and other scholarly activities under the mentorship of a CU Denver faculty mentor. Mini grants of $500 are awarded each fall. Get your Flu Shot at Auraria Campus

The Next Drive-Up Flu Shot Date is Tomorrow, Sept 12

King Soopers is offering flu shots at the Auraria Campus 5th Street Parking Garage, 650 Walnut St., on Saturday, Sept. 12, and Saturday, Sept. 19, from 9:00am–5:00pm. Most insurance plans will cover the shot with no cost.
