Funds are available through financial aid for international, undocumented, and DACA students who may not be eligible for other types of federal aid. Single Stop

Single Stop at CU Denver connects students to the local community and governmental resources (e.g. Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Medicaid) that can help them overcome socioeconomic barriers and assist them in their educational journey. Single Stop is a free online screening tool that can estimate in minutes what supplemental resources students might be eligible to receive.

2022 Spring PBHL Electives

PBHL 2052, Global Demography and Health with Dr. Ivan Ramirez (meets Core Curriculum International Perspectives requirement). Examines current issues in population growth, fertility, mortality and migration in the United States and globally. Introduces students to the basic tools of demography and encourages them to think critically about the causes and consequences of population change. Online. PBHL 3002, Ethnicity, Health, and Social Justice with Dr. Hyeyoung Oh Nelson. Surveys core issues contributing to racial or ethnic minority differences in health status. Historical and contemporary U.S. health and social policy, including the areas of environmental health, sexual and reproductive health, children and immigrants, are examined. Online. PBHL 3010, Human Sexuality and Public Health with Leah Pauline. The goal of this course is to critically engage students in the analysis of varying aspects and issues surrounding human sexuality in the US and globally through analysis of historical and contemporary construction of sexuality, but mostly how issues within sexuality show up in public health. We will consider sexuality from social, cultural, political, and public health contexts to identify key factors that influence sexual behavior and impact health outcomes. We will discuss how to use those contexts to develop public health approaches to improve the sexual health of individuals and populations. Online. Contact leah.pauline@ucdenver.edu with questions.

PBHL 4031, Ethnographic Research in Public Health with Dr. Jean Scandlyn. Ethnography studies how people see the world and act in everyday life and can be applied in public health practice to improve community health. The course covers research methods including direct observation, interviews and focus groups, rapid assessment and community-based research and basic analytic strategies, including review of computer software, coding, and data display techniques. Hybrid, Tues/Thurs 2:00-3:15pm. PBHL 4200, The Global HIV/AIDS Epidemic with Petros Vilakati. This course covers the biological, social, economic, and political dimensions of the global HIV epidemic. Using inter-disciplinary perspectives, students will learn about the changing nature of the epidemic over time and in different regions of the world. Students will also apply health intervention and promotion theories to design HIV prevention interventions. This course will equip students to apply lessons from the HIV epidemic to other health and social issues. Online. Contact bonginkhosi.vilakati@ucdenver.edu with questions.

GEOG 3051, Geography of Health with Dr. Peter Anthamatten. In person, Mon/Wed 11:00am-12:15pm. Offers a critical geographic perspective to human health issues, examining disease distributions, how changing relationships between people and their environments (natural, built, and social environments) influence health, and different approaches to the study of health in geography. Application Open for MPH at CU Anschutz

The Colorado School of Public Health at CU Anschutz is accepting applications to the Masters in Public Health (MPH) program. You get your MPH degree at any of our three collaborating institutions. Each campus offers areas of study that leverage the unique strengths of that university. The 42-45 credit hour MPH program is designed to be completed in two years and must be finshed within five years. As part of your degree, you'll complete a practicum and capstone project, so you'll graduate with skills you learned from experience at the Colorado School of Public Health. 

The preferred program applications date is January 15, 2022 but applicaitons will be considered on a rolling basis through May, 2022. Learn more online.

The Rachel Tanur Memorial Prize for Visual Sociology

The Rachel Tanur Memorial Prize for Visual Sociology recognizes students in the social sciences who incorporate visual analysis in their work. The contest is open worldwide to undergraduate and graduate students majoring in any social science. Entries for the 2022 competition must be received by March 1, 2022.  All prize winners will be awarded student membership to the ISA and the Visual Sociology Research Committee.The prize is awarded biennially.

Boulder County Hiring Two Epidemiologists

Boulder County Public Health is looking to hire two epidemiologists. This position performs a variety of complex epidemiological duties related to the surveillance, investigation, control, infection prevention, follow-up and reporting of COVID-19 cases and outbreaks in Boulder County. The position ensures outbreak preparedness and response activities including coordinating directly with system partners to establish and implement infection control protocols to prevent and respond to outbreaks and ensures that cases and outbreaks are monitored and reported in alignment with state guidance and local surge response status. Interviews begin December 3.
