Marcy has an MA in English from California Polytechnic University of Pomona where she concentrated on women writers of color and teaching composition and rhetoric. She also has a minor degree in Spanish.  She taught for twenty years at Citrus College in Los Angeles, managed instructional support services, and started the Distance Education program about which she has given numerous presentations.  She taught at Dongbei University of Finance and Economics in Dalian, China for eight years before being accepted into the US State Departments English Language Fellow Program where she served two years in Ethiopia.  She is currently teaching in Beijing, China for the UCD affiliate program there.
