Overview
The B.A. to M.A. plan in economics (4+1) allows qualified undergraduate students to take graduate level economic courses and count them towards their B.A. degree in economics. After completing the B.A. in economics, up to 12 graduate level ECON credits taken as an undergraduate student may be counted again towards the M.A. in Economics degree. As a result, these graduate credits will count towards two degrees.
There is not a minimum number of graduate level courses required, and so you may take just one or two graduate level courses as an undergraduate student. It is never too late to start. You may begin taking graduate courses in your junior or senior year.
Students following the B.A. to M.A. plan are not required to pursue the M.A. degree in economics at CU Denver after earning their B.A. degree. Students who are preparing for graduate study in economics or related fields are strongly encouraged to take advantage of the B.A. to M.A. plan.
