Please Vote, Read the Our Campus, Our Voice Message from Campus Leadership, and Take a Moment to Comment on the CLAS Strategic Plan
This weekend as we experience a different kind of Halloween and set our clocks back (don’t forget), we also reflect on our greatest civic privilege and responsibility – voting. There has been no shortage of reminders over the past few months, so I’m just going to contribute one more here: everyone needs to vote. In Colorado we are lucky to have multiple options. Please be aware that mail-in ballots must be received by Election Day, November 3rd, not postmarked on that day. So if you haven’t mailed yours yet it’s best to use a ballot drop box. Many people are unaware that Colorado offers same-day voter registration at in-person polling centers and you can register and vote up until 7 p.m. on Election Day. But in-person voting is not limited to November 3rd. Voting centers are open now around Denver, and there’s even one inside the Tivoli Student Union. Hours and locations throughout Denver are searchable here.
Tivoli Voting Hours:
Today and tomorrow from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m.
Oct. 31 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Nov. 2 from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m.
Nov. 3 from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.
Chancellor Marks and the leadership of our student, faculty, and staff organizations sent a message to our entire community earlier about our campus, our voice. In it, they outline the CU Denver commitment to our well-being as Election Day nears and provide resources on the Election 2020 website. CLAS supports their message and encourages you to read it if you have not already done so.
I also wanted to remind you that we posted the new CLAS draft strategic plan for your comments (a VPN connection is required to access the form and you login with your university id and password). This is the version that CLAS Council approved at the end of spring semester 2020. You’ll notice that timelines are specified but metrics are not – we will work through relevant metrics as we finalize the plan. Finalizing the plan will involve collaboration; as President Kennedy began a strategic planning process last academic year for the system (that was halted due to the pandemic), and Chancellor Marks likely will want to engage in strategic planning for CU Denver as well. Aligning our plan with those of the system and our campus may involve reorganizing or changing some aspects of the CLAS document, if that happens you will see another draft for comment in the future. Also, we know that our extraordinary budget challenges may affect our proposed timelines. Keeping all that in mind, the deadline for comments for this round is Friday, November 6, 2020.
