Douglas F. Dyckes Endowed Chemistry Scholarship

The Douglas F. Dyckes Endowed Chemistry Scholarship was established to celebrate Dr Douglas F. Dyckes’ contributions and accomplishments as a chemistry professor and chair at the University of Colorado Denver. Dr. Dyckes joined the CU Denver faculty in 1990 and has made a significant impact on the lives of students and faculty in the Chemistry Department. In addition, Dr Dyckes has made notable contributions in the field of organic chemistry.

The Douglas F. Dyckes Chemistry Endowed Scholarship recognizes and supports outstanding undergraduate students majoring in the Chemistry Department at CU Denver. Preference will be given to students pursuing professions in health-related fields, who demonstrate academic excellence and financial need. (Health-related fields is broadly defined, including but not limited to medical/dental practice and medical / pharmaceutical / medicinal chemistry research.)

The application deadline is 04/20/24. Scholarship awards will be made during the Fall semester of 2024. The number of scholarships and the award amounts vary, based on the endowment distribution. The Chemistry Department Awards Committee will review each application against the published criteria in order to select the scholarship winner(s) and amount(s). Traditionally, one scholarship has been awarded per year in the amount of $1200. As the endowment increases, additional scholarships may be awarded.

Evaluation Criteria

* Undergraduate student

* Majoring in the Chemistry Department

* Preference will be given to students pursuing professions in health-related fields who demonstrate academic excellence and financial need.

APPLICATION PACKAGE MUST INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING ATTACHMENTS

* One to two-page application letter in which the student discusses their current academic record and GPA, plans for future study and career, financial need, any Chemistry Department positions held (laboratory teaching assistant, lecture learning assistant, grader, work-study, etc.), any participation in the CU Denver Chemistry Club, any supervised research done in the CU Denver Chemistry Department, and any other department-related activities.

* Up-to-date curriculum vitae, including a publication list if applicable, of 1-3 pages.

* Official transcripts of all college and/or university work.

* Two letters of recommendation, at least one from a CU Denver Chemistry Department faculty member
