Chemistry Department welcomes our alumni Tiger Thompson (Corden Pharma), Sara Meyer (Mallinda Inc.), Michelle Cheng (Lockheed Martin Space), Santiago Arellano (Agilent Technologies), and Ellen Walton (Hyde Engineering) as they discuss life after CU Denver. The alumni will share their experience and provide advice on finding employment in STEM industries. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions within a Q&A session. Light refreshments will be provided.

Preparing your curriculum vitae and/or resume, searching for employment, and writing your personal statement may seem overwhelming and intimidating. Join your peers in a series of Workshops offered by the Writing Center and the Career Center to help guide you in this process, as well as provide you with feedback so that you can put your best foot forward as you apply for your first job!

  • Workshop: Application Essays, Letters & Personal Statements - Monday, April 17, 2023 at 1:00 p.m.
    Learning Commons 2227

    This workshop will define the subtle differences between personal statements, directed application essays, and letters of intent. It will also discuss what should and should not be included in each, common mistakes, and addressing academic transgressions. The workshop will culminate with a few directed writing and brainstorming exercises in order to get participants thinking of ways to begin the essay and topics they can cover.
     

  • Workshop: Effective Resumes & Cover Letters - Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at 1:00 p.m.

    In this workshop, participants will learn how to write a professional resume and cover letter.  The workshop will discuss how the two documents should complement one other, what information belongs in each section, and how to tailor these documents to specific positions using keywords. Formatting and organization will also be discussed. Time will be allotted for questions and individual work on participants' resumes/cover letters.
     

  • Workshop: Writing a Curriculum Vitae (CV) - Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at 1:00 p.m.

    This workshop provides an overview of creating a Curriculum Vitae: a specialized academic resume.  Designed for both those who are new to CVs and those who are simply interested in revising their current CVs, the workshop provides a basic template for all CVs as well as optional sections and ideas for non-traditional CVs. We will discuss who needs a CV and why, as well as what goes in a CV; we will also examine a variety of professional samples. Time will be allotted to look at drafts of your own CV.
