Kohn-Damrauer Endowed Chemistry Lectureship

The Kohn-Damrauer Endowed Chemistry Lectureship is an annual event that engages the entire CU Denver campus in chemistry.

Preeminent, internationally renowned speakers meet with sudents and faculty over a two day visit. The invited speaker gives a chemistry seminar for the students and faculty. The speaker also gives a public address for the university community which is open to the public.

The Kohn-Damrauer Endowed Chemistry Lectureship was founded by current chemistry faculty Dr Bob Damrauer and former chemistry faculty Dr. Lennie Damrauer in honor of their parents.

2023 Lectureship Announced:

Professor Sir Shankar Balasubramanian FRS

Department of Chemistry

University of Cambridge UK

(Co-sponsored by the Collaborative GC-1 Epigenetic Team)

How can scientists and doctors immediately identify and characterize viruses and real-time monitor genetic diseases? It would be impossible without the next generation sequencing technologies invented by Professor Sir. Shankar Balasubramanian and co-workers. Today, re-sequencing a full human genome can be done within a day at the cost of a few hundred dollars; however, before their inventions, it could take many months and cost millions of dollars.

Professor Sir. Shankar Balasubramanian has made seminal contributions to the genetic and epigenetic field. His work has uncovered many molecular mechanisms that can exploited to treat cancer.

Public Lecture: Monday, April 3, 2023 at 6:00 -7:00 PM

Location: Student Commons 2600

Research Lecture: Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at 12:30-1:30 PM

Location: CU Building Room 470

Zoom: https://ucdenver.zoom.us/j/96026741897

Professor Sir. Shankar Balasubramian won numerous awards for his contributions to science. He was knighted in 2017 for services to science and medicine, and won 2018 Royal Medal, 2020 Millennium Technology Prize, and 2022 Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences.
