Prerequisite Overrides

In order to register for certain courses, prerequisites may be required. A prerequisite is a course or requirement that a student must complete before enrolling in a specific course or program. If you have previously completed a prerequisite but are unable to enroll or are requesting a prerequisite exception follow the instructions below:

Complete the following steps to register for a course that requires a prerequisite you completed but has not been processed by CU Denver. Prerequisites may be satisfied by AP/IB/CLEP, concurrent/dual enrollment, or college transfer credit

  1. Complete the Schedule Adjustment Form
    • In the action column, type "E" for Enroll as the requested action
    • Include the subject, course number and section information for the course you are attempting to enroll in
    • Faculty and/or authority signatures are NOT required for this process
    • You can sign digitally using Free Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.
  2. Download a copy of your unofficial transcript or score report indicating credit for the prerequisite course
  3. Submit the Schedule Adjustment Form and transcript/score report via email to registrar@ucdenver.edu
  4. The Registrar will enroll you into the course if your temporary prerequisite override is approved

Important: You must provide the Registrar with official transcripts or score reports showing your final grade/scores for any prerequisites by the Thursday before the semester begins.

If you are attempting to enroll in a CLAS course that requires a prerequisite you have NOT completed you can request a prerequisite exception if there is reasoning for registering for the course without meeting the prerequisite requirement. Click here for a list of contacts by CLAS department for requesting prerequisite exceptions.
