Writing Groups

Creative Writing Groups

Creative Writing Groups meet on Zoom and exist for students working on any kind of creative writing project, ranging from poetry and essays to novels and screenplays. Whether for class or personal, writing together can help us get inspired, stay disciplined, and achieve our writing goals. Folks who are eager to connect and share their writing outside of group will be invited to do so in both private and public settings. Group sessions follow a three-part format: 1) communal opening check in; 2) dedicated, quiet working time; and 3) communal debrief and reflection. Sessions do not allow for writing feedback and instruction -- please make individual appointments for that.

Fall 2026 Creative Writing Groups:

Thursday Group: Thursdays, 5pm-7pm (2 hours)

Please register first. If you plan to commit to weekly attendance, you can schedule individual appointments yourself throughout the semester. You can also email us at Writing.Lab@ucdenver.edu to request that we set up recurring weekly appointments for you. Students who register and schedule in advance have priority over drop-ins. You are also welcome to attend sporadically as space allows. Simply schedule appointments one at a time any week that shows a white (available) box.

If you're interested in joining a future-semester group and want to be notified when schedules and registration are available, please email: Writing.Lab@ucdenver.edu

Graduate Writing Groups are designed for students working on long-form writing projects. They typically meet for ~10 weeks on Zoom for lightly facilitated writing sessions lasting between 2-4 hours, depending on the group. Weekly meetings prioritize protected writing time, accountability, and habit-building in a small-group setting. Sessions follow a three-part format: 1) communal opening check-in; 2) dedicated, quiet working time; and 3) communal debrief and reflection. Sessions do not allow for writing feedback and instruction -- please make individual appointments for that. To get the most from the group, we prefer that participants commit to the full program and 80% or better attendance, though we understand that Life Happens and welcome drop-ins to groups as space allows.

Fall 2026 Graduate Writing Groups:

Tuesday Group: Tuesdays, 3pm-6pm (3 hours)

Wednesday Group: Wednesdays, 6pm-8pm (2 hours)

Groups are limited to 10 writers. Students who register and commit have priority over drop-ins. Registration is first-come/first-served.

After registering, login to WCOnline using your university credentials, select the Writing Groups schedule, and make appointments for the sessions you intend to join. You can also email Writing.Lab@ucdenver.edu and request help scheduling recurring appointments for the whole semester (so that you don't have to make separate appointments for every meeting).
