Student Appointments

Student Employee Work Hours Policy 

During the Fall or Spring semesters, the maximum hours a student can work is 25 hours/week or 50 hours/bi-weekly period provided that no single week in that period exceeds 40 hours per week. During the summer or holiday breaks, students can work up to 40 hours/week.

Student contract appointments include Graduate/Undergraduate Teaching Assistants (TA's), Graduate Part Time Instructors (GPTI's), and Research Assistants (RA's).

General Hiring Overview

  1. Create a job description and post the job ad. It can be posted on the department website, Handshake, or other means communicate the position is open.  
  2. Once you have a candidate you would like to hire, you can draft an offer letter.
  3. Submit a Background Check Request and initiate the I-9 form through HireRight.
  4. Once the background check is approved, submit the hire transaction in HCM for review and approval.

Hourly appointments include Student Assistants, Graders, Research Assistants (RA's), and Graduate Assistants (GA's).

These appointments are automatically approved after the department administrator submits the transaction. You are welcome reach out to your HR Liaison to have them review the appointment after the transaction has been submitted.
