Our population is aging—there are nearly 50 million adults in the US over the age of 65, and US adults who reach age 65 can expect to live an additional 19 years. Career opportunities in gerontology are growing rapidly, and addressing the unique needs of older adults will be important for the next generation of public health professionals. This course will discuss changes to social, behavioral, and biological functioning with age and also consider different ideas about what constitutes ‘successful’ aging.
