The Jake Adam York reading series continues on Wednesday, November 11th with fiction writer, Avigayl Sharp. Avigayl will be reading from her recently published novel Offseason. I would be grateful if you could share this flyer with your students and encourage them to join us for the event. We’ll be hosting Avigayl at 6:30 pm in the Tivoli Zenith Room (640). There will be a reading, Q&A, and book signing. The flyer is attached and I’ll share a couple of links in case you and/or your students are interested in reading more from/about Avigayl. (And big thanks to our Copper Nickel intern Gale Khayut for designing our flyer!)

A review from The Guardian:
Sharp's first novel, OFFSEASON, was published in May 2026 by Astra House (US) and Weidenfeld & Nicolson (UK). Called "one of the sharpest and liveliest debuts of the decade" in Vulture, it was named a 2026 favorite by NPR and has been shortlisted for the Center for Fiction First Novel Prize. Her story collection, SICKNESS, HEALTH, will be published in April 2027.
Her fiction has also appeared in publications including The Paris Review, Granta, and McSweeney's, and her work has received support from Yaddo, the Granum Foundation, and Lighthouse Works. She is the recipient of the 2023 DISQUIET Literary Prize, a Pushcart Prize, and a 2023–2024 writing fellowship at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown.
Avigayl holds a BA from Wesleyan University and an MFA from the Michener Center for Writers in Austin, Texas. Originally from Chicago, she is currently based in Brooklyn.
