Brian Buma, Integrative Biology Assistant Professor, was recently awarded a grant from the National Science Foundation to study the effects of historical management patterns on future carbon sequestration projects in the US and Canada. The support totals $476,254 over three years and will result in the first spatially explicit carbon maps of the entire coastal region, one of the densest carbon hotspots on the globe, as well as a new public-private partnership with carbon market experts. In addition, the peer reviewed paper officially announcing the world's southernmost tree (research that Buma has been pursuing for many years) is now available from the journal Ecography.
