As we come to midterms, continuing to work with our students through all the new challenges this unprecedented semester presents, I’d like to remind everyone about the Early Alert System. This tool allows us to identify students who may need extra support so that we can connect them with the resources they need, and this year we expect 100% participation from all CLAS faculty.
The Office of the Provost takes Early Alert participation very seriously, and has data showing that the interventions that come as a result of Early Alert markedly help retain our students. But more important than the data is the chance to make a difference in the life of a struggling student. While remote teaching and learning is helping to keep our community healthy, without seeing our students in person we might have fewer opportunities to assess their wellbeing in classroom moments. It’s up to all of us to give students the best chance for success in their education in these troubling times.
Faculty can submit information on students for the following reasons:
- Assignments or Tests Missing
- Support Required to Improve Multiple Low Scores
- Low Attendance and Participation Pattern
- Tutoring Suggested
- Tech Support Required-Laptop/WiFi
I thank all of you who used the Early Alert system to submit the First Week Attendance Report, and want to remind you that the Course Progress Report is open now, with a deadline of Monday, October 19.
