As winter weather consumed our fair city over the past few weeks, the central University Communication (UComm) team has been working hard to keep CU in the City evolving. Our CU in the City brand, as well as our faithful mascot Milo the Lynx, are valuable assets that work to set us apart in an increasingly crowded educational environment. Just as our university’s name is indispensable to the success of our brand, so too is that of CU Denver units, centers, programs and initiatives. Strongly named entities have the power to inform, educate, and create an instant bond with our communities on campus and beyond. Entities with names that are too similar, however, can be confusing and detrimental to our efforts. To this end, the UComm team created a system to identify, approve and catalog any programs, initiatives, or entities that want to affiliate with our brand by using “Lynx,” “Milo,” or “… in the City” in their naming. For example, our Science in the City Summer camps are established programs that have been running for several years, and now that they are officially registered as such, anyone else on campus wanting to use “Science in the City” as part of their naming strategy will need to ask permission from out CPE team.
Another important development for everyone on campus involved in promoting our amazing programs is the newly revamped, campus-wide Digital Asset Management System. Via this system, our UComm team provides everyone with CU Denver log-in access to a wealth of photography, video, and logo packages that can be used on our websites, in other digital venues, and in print to help standardize the look-and-feel of our promotions. In addition, assets developed by each department during our annual CLAS departmental photoshoots (look for more info on scheduling for 2020 soon) are available and kept up to date in this system. Everyone who used the previous WebDAM system will log into the same URL, but will notice an upgraded user experience via the new vendor, Brandfolder. The new system is designed to be intuitive and will provide our marketing team valuable data about what assets users are accessing most often. While the bugs are being worked out of the system, some users might have difficulty finding assets from the previous system, but rest assured they have all been transitioned over. Get Started guides can help users discover the multiple advantages of Brandfolder, and questions about either of these initiatives should be directed to our Marketing and Communication Director Tracy Kohm, who’s excited to work with all of you on these projects.
