Jacobson Organized Workshop to Improve Future Math Academics

Published: April 13, 2017

Earlier this month, Michael S. Jacobson, Professor and Interim Chair of Mathematical and Statistical Science, co-organized and co-led a national workshop on “The Professional Preparation for Future Faculty in the Mathematical Sciences” in Arlington Virginia at the National Science Foundation. The workshop attracted participants from across the United States and included university administrators and chairs, leaders of many of the national mathematics societies, including the American Mathematical Society, Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, as well as representatives from AAAS, and APLU. The intent of this workshop was to broaden the national discussion of re-evaluating the academic and professional preparation for doctoral students, and how best to address their potential future career needs.
