Math Placement

The ALEKS Placement, Preparation, and Learning Assessment is designed to prepare all students requiring a STEM math pathway course to complete their math requirements successfully. ALEKS is more than a placement assessment; it is a tool that supports your learning. After you complete the assessment, a set of modules will be created for you based on your areas for mathematical growth. You can work through those modules and retake the assessment up to four more times.

Chemistry Placement 

The General Chemistry Assessment Test (GCAT) assesses a student's level of preparedness for General Chemistry I (CHEM 2031). Students that are require to take CHEM 2031 as part of their program requirments are encouraged to take the GCAT before starting the course. If your score indicates that you are not prepared, you will be offered a variety of options including enrolling in Foundations for General Chemistry (CHEM 1000), attending the Learning Resources Center I-Prep sessions, using on-line tutoring, or self-study.

Language Placement 

The Department of Modern Languages currently offers placement exams in French, German and Spanish. Students seeking to take a proficiency exam for a language other than French, German or Spanish must satisfactorily pass the Brigham Young University Foreign Language Achievement test for that language.
