How CLAS Advising Works

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) uses a collaborative, student‑centered advising model designed to support you from your first semester through graduation. As a CLAS student, you work with a team of advisors who help you navigate university expectations and plan your academic path. In addition to an assigned CLAS Academic Advisor, all CLAS students with a declared CLAS major are connected with a Major Advisor, and pre‑health students receive additional support from Health Professions Advisors.

Overview

All CLAS students with a declared CLAS major are assigned a CLAS Academic Advisor who provides academic advising and general guidance throughout their degree. CLAS Academic Advisors help students understand university, college, and graduation requirements; navigate university and college policies; and connect with campus resources to ensure they have the support they need to succeed. Students are encouraged to reach out to their CLAS Academic Advisor for general advising questions, degree planning, and whenever they’re unsure where to start.

How to Connect

Students will find their assigned CLAS Academic Advisor's name in their Student Profile in UCDAccess. Students can connect with CLAS Academic Advisors by scheduling appointments, attending drop‑in advising, or reaching out by email.

Overview

Each CLAS program (i.e., major and minor) provides a major/minor advisor who supports students in that program’s majors and/or minors. Major and minor advisors help students understand program requirements, assist with academic and professional planning, and support students to make the most of their experience in the program through additional opportunities. Students are encouraged to meet with their major/minor advisor when exploring their program requirements, considering research or experiential learning opportunities, or seeking deeper insight into their field of study.

How to Connect

Students can find contact information for the designated major/minor advisor for each CLAS program on the Major/Minor Advisor Contact Sheet.

Overview

All students with a declared pre‑health track have a team of Health Professions Advisors who guide them through the academic and experiential requirements for their intended health professions program. Health Professions Advisors help students understand prerequisite coursework, plan application timelines, and prepare for clinical, volunteer, and shadowing experiences. Students are encouraged to connect with their Health Professions Advisors when exploring pre‑health pathways, preparing for professional school applications, or seeking individualized support for their healthcare career goals.
