Gabriel has conducted research in Medellín, Colombia, examining the relationship between landholding inequality and violence, through the collection of qualitative semi-structured interviews with government officials and former senators from Antioquia. He incorporated mixed methods approaches, including spatial analysis and a longitudinal approach, in order to assess the increase in land inequality in Colombia in several regions beset by violence between guerillas and paramilitary groups.

Gabriel also has experience working in the non-profit sector, working at an organization in the South Bronx, NY dedicated to support underrepresented students return to college. He has also taught in the Sociology Departments at CUNY-Leman College, CUNY-Hunter College, and Metropolitan State University. Collectively, his teaching and research experiences reveal his commitment to addressing enduring social inequities in the United States and abroad.
