Dr. CJ Bathgate is a clinical health psychologist and Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Neurology and Behavioral Health at National Jewish Health in Denver, CO. Dr. Bathgate focuses on the mental health and emotional well-being of adults with cystic fibrosis (CF). Her clinical and research interests include mood, sleep, stress, neurocognition, health behaviors, quality of life, and aging with CF, with particular emphasis on the impact of cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) modulators and overall well-being.

Dr. Bathgate is the current Chair of the Prioritizing Research in Menta Health Working Group (PRIME) for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) and a CFF Clinical Research Scholars Program (CRSP) recipient. She has been a Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator on numerous CF multisite mental health studies, including the development and testing of the Coping and Learning to Manage Stress with CF (CALM) telehealth program, Promoting Access to Create Hope and Healing (CF-PATCH): A study examining interpersonal violence in CF, the General Mental Health Screener in CF (GEMS-CF), the CF Wellness Program evaluating fatigue, sleep, and physical activity outcomes (CF-Wellness), and the Restarting Triple Therapy with Robust Monitoring for Adverse Events (RETRIAL) study.  She is Co-Chair of the Psychosocial Program Planning Committee for the North American CF Conference, a member of the Success with Therapies Research Consortium, and an active collaborator with the CFF’s Mental Health Advisory Committee and European CF Society’s Mental Health Working Group.

Dr. Bathgate was the first graduate of our APA-accredited Clinical Health Psychology doctoral program. In 2014, she was named Outstanding PhD Student of the Year, an honor awarded to a single doctoral student across all PhD programs in UCD’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Prior to her tenure at UCD, she completed Masters of Arts degree and a Masters of Education degree in Counseling Psychology from Columbia University in 2006 and her Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from the University of Michigan.
