Advising Graduate Students

Student in an advising session. Most students will tell you that the most important person in their graduate experience was their faculty advisor. That's because a faculty advisor typically does much more than recommend courses to fulfill program requirements. Your advisor can also help you make it through a thesis, should you choose that option, and/or the comprehensive exam.

Once you are admitted into the graduate program, you should contact the graduate faculty coordinator, Andrés Lema-Hincapie, Associate Professor. He will either act as your advisor or help pair you with someone from the department's faculty whose background best fits your professional goals.

Students are strongly encouraged to meet with their faculty advisor every semester.
