Secondary Foreign Language Teaching Licensure --Track C

The Spanish Major with Secondary Foreign Language Teaching Licensure allows students to complete both a Spanish major and the necessary Education courses to be licensed in teaching Spanish at the secondary level upon graduation. This is for students who seek to begin a teaching career immediately upon graduation.

 This licensure program requires admission to the competitive UCTE program in the School of Education and Human Development.

1. Spanish courses:

33 credit hours of SPAN must be taken in the following areas:

a. Required courses:

SPAN 3065 - Spanish Phonetics and Pronunciation; SPAN 3101 - Intro to the Study of Literature in Spanish; SPAN 4690 - Methods of Teaching Modern Languages; any SPAN 32xx Culture course

b. Four courses (12 semester hours) at the 4000 level  

c. Three courses (9 semester hours) of electives. These may be any SPAN courses at the 2000 (up to 6 credit hours), 3000 or 4000 level.

2. Urban Community Teacher Education.

27-31 credit hours (all of the following courses): 

EDFN 4010 - Social Foundations and Cultural Diversity in Urban Education; CLDE 4020 - Responsive Classroom Communities; EDHD 3930- Diverse Learners Field Experience & Seminar; SPED 4030 - Understanding (dis)Ability in Contemporary Classrooms; CLDE 5030, 5070 or 5140 - Choose one from World Language Licensure Area; LCRT 4100 - Secondary Literacy Instruction and Assessment; UEDU 4931 - Internship and Learning Community I (2 credits); UEDU 4932 - Internship and Learning Community II (2 credits); UEDU 4933 - Internship and Learning Community III (6 credits); UEDU 4040 - Planning for Learning
