CERTIFICATE IN MEDICAL SPANISH FOR BEGINNERS

If you have never taken Spanish before and you don´t speak the language at all, you can register for this program. You will learn elementary Medical Spanish, starting with the most elementary aspects of the language, such as the alphabet, the numbers, greetings, etc. You´ll be able to greet your patients and ask and reply to basic questions in Spanish in a healthcare setting while learning about culture.

1.Two required courses:

SPAN 1070 Elementary Medical Spanish I (online) Typically Offered: Fall.

SPAN 1071 Elementary Medical Spanish II (online) Typically Offered: Spring.

 2.Two electives:

Complete two electives previously approved by the certificate’s advisor, such as these:

ANTH 4300/5300.  Immigrant Health.

ANTH 4350/5350. Anthropology of Globalization.         

ETST 3002. Ethnicity, Health, and Social Justice.

ETST 3108. Chicano/a and Latino/a history.

HDFR 4040. Latino Families in School and Communities.

HDFR 4045. Abuelos (Grandparents) Latino Families.

LDFS 3000. Undocumented Mexican Migration.

PSYC 4485. Psychology of Cultural Diversity.

SOCY 4050. Health Disparities.

SPAN 1010/1020. First Year Spanish I and II.
