Dr. Yvette Bueno-Olson, Senior Instructor in the Department of Communication, is leading the Maymester course: CU Denver in the Dominican Republic: Island Life | Health & Wellness (May 17-27). The course explores cultural health beliefs and practices within the historic, social, economic, and political landscape of the Dominican Republic. Through a global health communication perspective, students will discuss how traditions, cultural events, and socioeconomic patterns shape health beliefs and access. To explore these issues, the course content examines how systems of power and privilege impact the healthcare system. Students will discuss salient social identity groups, including Haitians within the Dominican Republic.
