This course will explore the history of China from the
mid-nineteenth century to the present. It explores
topics such as:
 
The course and consequences of imperialism
The Communist revolution
Economic reform
Marriage and family
Gender relations
Urbanization
China’s relations with the world
Class meetings are held on Zoom, comprising lectures, discussions,
and presentations. Together, we will examine a wide range of
textual and visual materials, including official documents, memoirs,
news reports, and documentary films.
