Mr. Sam Thomas and INTS Director, Dr. Hamilton Bean, have had their Dubai course proposal approved. They are going to lead a group of 12 students to the United Arab Emirates for two weeks in early January 2020. The course could count for INTS majors’ “Islamic World” or “Global” zone and/or various focus themes (anything related to business, politics, or culture). It could also count for INTS minor credit or COMM credit. Credits are applied to the spring 2020 term/tuition, so financial aid can be used. But more than credit, this will be an epic adventure in the heart of the Gulf. Students will not only develop regional knowledge, analytical ability, and cross-cultural competence (including a little Arabic practice), they will bash the dunes, sleep in the desert under an Arabian sky, ascend the tallest building in the world, feast on amazing local cuisine, and engage the economic, political, and cultural transformations reshaping the Middle East via readings, site visits, and one-on-one discussions with foreign guest workers and Emiratis in business, government, and nongovernmental organizations.
