INTS Program Holds Annual Careers in International Studies Panel

On April 15, 2019, the International Studies program conducted its annual Careers in International Studies panel. Panelists included:

Stewart Devine is a career Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. State Department. He is currently serving as the Diplomat In Residence (DIR) Rocky Mountains Region, based out of the Josef Korbel School of International Studies, University of Denver. Before his assignment as Diplomat in Residence, Mr. Devine was posted to the U.S. Embassy in The Hague, Netherlands, as the Counselor for Management Affairs and to the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, overseeing the Department of State and the Mission’s Refugees and Internally-Displaced Persons program throughout Iraq. He has also served at embassies and consulates in Abu Dhabi, Frankfurt, Bangkok, Seoul, Suva (Fiji), Osaka, and Cairo. Prior to entering the Foreign Service, Mr. Devine was a military officer with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

Isabel Elliott served as Community Health Outreach Volunteer with Peace Corps in Mozambique. She is passionate about public health and medical institutional development pertaining to HIV pathology, prevention, propagation, and treatment. Her work has also included empowerment of women & girls, reproductive health education, and organizational development through education and capacity building. She is beginning medical school at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine in the fall and hopes to continue working in international health after earning her medical degree.

Emma Sletteland is currently the Program Coordinator for the Office of International Affairs at the University of Colorado Denver, providing support across all international affairs units and functions, and as of May 1st, will be starting in a new role at CU Denver as the International Recruitment & Enrollment Coordinator in the Office of International Admissions. Emma is a CU Denver alumna, an avid traveler, and a passionate supporter of international education. Emma earned her BA in International Studies, with minors in French and Leadership Studies, from CU Denver in 2015, and studied abroad in France and Morocco. Since graduating, Emma has worked at various jobs in International and Higher Education, including one year teaching English in Japan (and traveling Asia) on the Japan Exchange & Teaching Program.

Martin Widzer is a lecturer in the Department of Political Science at the University of Colorado Denver with a strong interest in international security and conflict resolutions strategies. Prior to coming to the university, Martin worked as the assistant to the Director for Regional Security at Search for Common Ground in Jerusalem and served as the Interim Director of the NGO Committee on Disarmament at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
