BIOL 3832, on campus As a TA for a face to face section of Genetics (with Dr. Beck, Dr. Infante or Dr. Johansen), you’ll be performing the following duties... • attend lecture (for the first time you TA) • attend weekly TA meetings • hold weekly office hours for students (1 hour) • assist in the production of recitation materials (worksheets, homeworks, and quizzes) • grade weekly homeworks and quizzes from recitation (within a few days of the recitation) • run their recitation section each week (which may include giving a miniature lecture on content, addressing student questions on the worksheet, going over correct worksheet answers etc) • answer student e-mails and be the initial contact for grade disputes on recitation assignments • update your recitation Canvas shell each week (includes uploading grades, posting homework assignments, posting worksheets, posting keys) • assist in the editing and review of lecture exams • assist in the grading of lecture exams The ideal candidate for a Genetics TA will... • have earned an A or B in the course • have an overall GPA for 3.0 or higher • have taken the course with whomever they would like to TA for BIOL 3832, online As a TA for a fully online section of Genetics, you’ll be performing the following duties... • grade weekly problems, homeworks, and quizzes from recitation (assignments are due for students on Sundays at 11:59pm; grades on all assignments are expected to be back to students by Tuesday evening) • answer student e-mails (and there are a lot in an online course) and be the initial contact for grade disputes on weekly assignments • update your recitation Canvas shell each week (includes releasing grades, posting homework and quiz keys) • writing up a explanation of a popularly missed HW/quiz question/concept in general, posting it to the discussion board each week, and being responsive to comments on that discussion thread • assist in the editing and review of lecture exams • assist in the grading of lecture exams (which is a coordinated, in-person effort with Dr. Beck and all online TAs) The ideal candidate for an online Genetics TA will... • have earned an A or B in the course • have an overall GPA for 3.0 or higher • have taken the course with Dr. Beck (online or face-to-face) • be very self motivated • have good e-mail/electronic/written communication skills • have reliable internet access • be familiar with/open to learning more about Canvas
