Tyrone Braxton has a professional career as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Licensed Addictions Counselor has influenced his aspirations to be an applied researcher. His research interests include disparities in the treatment of adolescent and adult mental health and substance use among minority populations. Additionally, the unequal treatment in the criminal justice system is an area of future concentration. Specifically, how implicit bias relates to the discretion of police, prosecutors, and judges, which in turn contributes to the unequitable treatment of minority populations in arrests, convictions, and sentencing. His mixed method dissertation topic looks at how the structural environment of prison contributes to the mental and physical health of African American Males.
