Black History Month at CU Denver
February is Black History Month, a time to celebrate the successes of African Americans and recognize their powerful role in U.S. history. CU Denver’s Black Student Services has created a variety of events to address issues important to our Black student community. All students, faculty, and staff are welcome and encouraged to bring their own experiences to the conversations. Click below for information on upcoming events.

Understanding Patient Histories and the Legacy of Medical Mistrust
Healthcare Researcher and Health and Behavioral Sciences Alumni, Dr. Channing Tate, shares her personal experiences with family and stories of being a healthcare researcher. She will ise her personal story as a roadmap to illustrate some of the experiences of the older Black patuents/participants, and will discuss how their experiences may affect their access to healthcare.
Our department advisors are here to help you navigate registration for PBHL classes or any other questions you might have about completing your PBHL undergraduate degree. Internship Corner
The Southern Plains Tribal Health Board (SPTHB) has been awarded a CDC grant, the Lewis/Ferguson Internships and Fellowships that provides internship opportunities for qualified undergraduate students to gain meaningful experiences in public health settings.
The Tribal Health Experiential Student Internships Seminar (THESIS) program is currently accepting intern applications for a paid virtual 8-week internship. THESIS.spthb.org is live and available with further information. Calling any Juniors and Seniors with quantitative (numbers and math) strengths and interest! The Colorado School of Public Health Department of Biostatistics and Informatics hosts a 5-week summer institute designed to give hands-on research and training experience in biostatistics and biomedical research for advanced under-graduate students. The institute, called CoSIBS, is funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and covers tuition for 4 UCD credits, room and board, and travel expenses.
The Center for Identity & Inclusion | Diversity, Equity & Inclusion offices support programs such as Black Student Services where they offer a uniquely-designed network of support services to assist students in all phases of their educational career at CU Denver. Some services they provide include, but are not limited to:
Assistance in applying for and gaining admission to the University
Cultural events and activities to enhance students' cross-cultural understanding, self-concept, and cultural identity
Sponsorship of active student organizations

Peer Advocate Leaders (PALs)
Peer Advocate Leaders (PALs) serve as peer mentors to help students navigate a successful college career. PALs are trained to work with students to connect them with CU Denver, the Auraria Campus, and the Denver community. These mentoring relationships are designed to foster student engagement and academic success by providing peer-level support that promotes student achievement, growth, and learning through the student’s career at CU Denver. PALs are paired in First-Year Experience courses to plan and facilitate educational and social activities. PALs also assist students in one-on-one environments.
