News and Announcements - PBHL Newsletter December 4, 2020

This will be the last PBHL newsletter until January. Meanwhile, please make sure to keep an eye on your CU Denver email for ongoing updates regarding the Spring semester. Our administrative staff and PBHL advisors will continue to be available throughout the winter break to assist you with any questions you might have.

Stay healthy and safe, and we will look forward to seeing you after you have some well-deserved time off from classes.

Congratulations on completing your undergraduate degree in Public Health! We applaud your perseverance through this difficult semester. Under normal circumstances, you would have the option of attending commencement, which unfortunately is not currently possible. But we did not want this to let the completion of your Bachelor’s go by without an acknowledgement of this important milestone in your life. We hope that you are able to attend virtual commencement on December 12 at 10:00am. Details on how to view the ceremony will be shared next week. Dr. Sharon Devine will be retiring at the end of this semester. Dr. Devine has been an integral part of our department for many years both as an alumna of our PhD program, as well as a faculty member in our Public Health undergraduate program and the Health and Behavioral Sciences PhD program. Please join us in wishing her well in her future endeavors.

Marisa Westrbook is stepping down from the role of PBHL advisor to spend time focusing on her dissertation research. Please join us in thanking Marisa for her tireless committment to student success and passion for Public Health. We wish her the best in pursuit of her PhD in Health & Behavioral Sciences.

As a reminder when you are looking at the Spring 2021 schedule, the timing of Spring Break has changed to April 19-25. Courses for the two following weeks will all be delivered remotely. Read more about this change in the Provost's announcement.

Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) is pleased to announce the immediate availability of Undergraduate Research Professional Development Funds. These funds are available to support undergraduate student attendance at virtual conferences and workshops during the remainder of the 2020-2021 academic year. Offered on a rolling basis until April 16, 2021.

Students can request a maximum of $400 to cover virtual conference or workshop registration fees. All awarded funds must be spent by April 30, 2021. Click Here for more information.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Transportation Security Laboratory (TSL) is offering summer internships for undergraduate students. The undergraduate stipend is $900/week.
