PhD Student Shoutouts

E_Melnick

Congratulations to Emily Melnick on her Post Doctoral Research Fellowship

Emily has accepted a postdoctoral research fellowship position at Arizona State University where she will work with Dr. Punam Ohri-Vachaspati and her ASU Food Policy and Environment Research Group. Emily will be supporting NIH funded projects which examine the role of school and community food environments on children’s health, impact of COVID-19 related school closures on children’s health, and examine if specific policies and programs initiated during COVID-19 (P-EBT, summer meal expansion) mitigated the negative impact of school closures.

Free Seminars with IBS Computing and Research Services

Multilevel Models for Longitudinal Data, Josh Goode. Friday, February 12, 2:00-3:30pm. In this workshop, we will be providing an introductory overview of longitudinal modeling with multilevel models. In addition to a discussion of the models themselves, we will be discussing the structure of longitudinal data and the different ways in which we can address time in the models. We will work through a simple example in Stata using the mixed command. Register online.

Using MAXQDA for Qualitative Data, Jim Dykes. Friday, March 12, 2:00-3:30pm. MAXQDA is a highly regarded qualitative analysis package that allows groups of people to share their coding work. IBS members and their students can use our copy of MAXQDA Pro for free. Come to this class and learn more about how MAXQDA can help you with your coding. Register online.

Interpreting Interactions in Stata, Josh Goode. Friday, April 16, 2:00-3:30pm. Interactions happen often in daily life, yet we often ignore or misinterpret them in our statistical models. For example, if you are studying age, income and gender in some population, have you considered that the age vs. income curve is often different for women and men. Statistically, we would say that age, income and gender interact. If you only include age, income and gender in the model, omitting the interaction, you may reduce the p-values for your model. Come to this class to learn how to use and interpret interactions in Stata. Register online.

Dissertation Database

If you would like to review dissertations by previous HBS PhD students, we have created an online database of publications that includes many of our previous students' dissertations from the past 20 years. You can find that resource online here.
