Today, more than half of the world’s human population live in cities.
This course focuses on the historical and current processes of urbanization. Cities are generators of economic development, cultural innovation, social transformation and political change.
The term “city” goes well beyond the boundary of a single municipality and takes into consideration suburbs, edge communities and neighboring rural areas. Location, climate, terrain and cultural identity all help shape the cities we live in.
