We all do so much for our students and community here at CU Denver – I’d like to ask you to consider doing just a little more. One day (maybe not even a full day) of volunteering for these upcoming programs can make a real and lasting impact on the educational experiences of many students. No matter your area of expertise, everyone can contribute to the next generation of scholars by volunteering their time, and you don’t even need to leave campus:
- CU Denver's 23rd annual Research and Creative Activities Symposium (RaCAS) is Friday, May 1, 2020, from 9:00 am-2:30 pm, in the Lola and Rob Salazar Wellness Center. RaCAS celebrates the research and creative work of our students. All students from both CU Denver and CU Anschutz are eligible to participate in the symposium, which provides the opportunity to present their work to an audience of peers, faculty, family, and visitors. Over 200 student researchers participate in the event each year. There are two time slots available for poster judging (9:30-10:30 am and 10:30 am-11:30 am) as well as a time slot to judge oral presentations over lunch (from 12 pm-1:15 pm), and signups for multiple time slots are welcome. Judges can choose the area they judge: Arts and Humanities, Biomedical Sciences, Data2Policy, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.
- Our History department runs National History Day in Colorado (NHDC), a social studies and literacy program that equips students in elementary, middle, and high school with the skills necessary to succeed in college and the real world. Students participate in a project-based learning curriculum that emphasizes critical reading and thinking, research, analysis, and the drawing of meaningful conclusions. Students can complete these projects in groups or as individuals in one of five categories: documentary, paper, exhibit, performance, or website. Close to 23,000 Colorado students participated at the local level this year, and NHDC relies on community members and partners to judge at the State Contest on Saturday, May 2. You will be trained, fed, and you will get to see some amazing kids doing amazing history!
