As part of CLAS's A.I. initiative, David Hildebrand will be developing a course entitled "A.I. Ethics" (working title). The course will examine the facts and ethical challenges of algorithms and A.I. as it affects a variety of sectors in society.
Since 2020, Hildebrand has written and presented numerous articles, chapters, and talks (20+) on information technology, addressing the challenges of information and algorithmic technologies for education, democracy, aesthetics, and meaningful ways of living. Recent efforts include “Ethical Questions about the Use of Data in Education” (Springer, forthcoming), “Algorithms, A.I. and Data in Education: A Pragmatic Look at New Promises and Core Values” (U. of Helsinki, Finland, 2023) and “Democracy without Autonomy? Information Technology’s Manipulation of Experience and Morality” (Routledge, forthcoming).
Hildebrand has been teaching ethics and the philosophy of media and technology for over 25 years, and hopes the CU Denver can play a leading role in instructing and implementing A.I. in ways which are thoughtful, ethical, and fully aligned with the university's educational mission.
