For those interested in learning more about generative AI, OER, and pedagogy, they have a workshop for you! This 3-hour hybrid workshop on February 16, 2024 (12-3pm; in the Student Commons Rm. 1600 and Zoom) will discuss how to create OER materials with AI and use an open peer-review process to ensure the quality of OER developed. The first hour will be a presentation discussing the logic and history of AI use in education and the state of the field in global AI research and investments related to education. Ms. Jones will share information about her current efforts in creating professional development materials on “Open Pedagogy and Equitable Teaching Practices with Generative AI as Adaptive Learning Technology.” The next 1 hour and 45 minutes will be an interactive workshop, where faculty will practice several prompt engineering methods based on Ms. Jones’ instructions. Faculty will also reflect on how they would apply these prompting methods to their courses and share their reflections on this experience, so that all attendees can learn new teaching practices. At the end of the workshop, we will leave 15 minutes for a question and answer and group reflection session. Participants will leave the workshop with practical prompting techniques and teaching practices that can develop OER and foster open pedagogy.
