James Walsh's Research on Irish Immigration in Leadville Celebrated at Two Events

Published: Sept. 21, 2023

James Walsh, Clinical Teaching Track Assistant Professor in Political Science, has done significant research on Irish immigrants in Leadville, which was celebrated in two events. The first event, which took place on Friday, September 15 at the Healy House in Leadville, was the opening of a new museum exhibit on the history of the Leadville Irish titled: Unearthed: Voices of Leadville's Shanty Irish, sponsored by History Colorado. The second event, which took place on Saturday, September 16 at Leadville's Evergreen Cemetery, involved the unveiling of the Leadville Irish Memorial. Walsh shared that this project would not have been possible without the contributions of dozens of undergraduate and graduate students over the years. Event attendees included the United States Ambassador to Ireland, Senator Michael Bennett, and many other prominent speakers from the Irish community and the modern Latinx immigrant community.
