Diana Tomback on Genetic Resistance to Whitebark Rust as Hope for a Threatened Future

Commenting on the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s designation of whitebark pine as threatened with potential extinction, Diana Tomback, Biology Professor and Policy Director of the Whitebark Pine Ecosystem Foundation said, “We know how to find genetic resistance to white pine blister rust and there's a number of whitebark pine trees that have it. They will be the foundation of a planting strategy.”
