Open Educational Resources Available to Faculty

Published: Oct. 28, 2020

There are a few opportunities for faculty associated with open educational resources (OER), including Creative Commons Certificate training, Pressbooks, and two OER conferences.

  • Creative Commons Certificate training course is available, where if you are selected for the course, the costs for participation will be fully covered by the Colorado Department of Higher Education (CDHE). Creative Commons offers a digital certificate, giving you knowledge to better advise your institution on creating and engaging with openly licensed works and the ability to help others understand and implement open licenses.  This is a three-month course from January to March 2021. The CDHE has a short application process for those interested. Please complete the application by Nov. 1, 2020.
  • CDHE wants to gauge faculty interest in Pressbooks, an online software that enables authors and publishers to design and format any kind of book in pdf, epub, mobi, and webbook formats.  Depending on interest, CDHE may offer future funding to use Pressbooks. A user guide is available online for quick access to “How-Tos” for using and creating OER and using Pressbooks.
  • CDHE is offering discounts for the OER virtual conferences. The registration codes for Open Ed 20 and OE Global are live.
    • Visit the above registration pages and use code:“CDHE”.
    • You must be a Colorado-based educator to be eligible.
