Contributing author Marty Otañez continues working for tobacco workers’ rights

Published: Dec. 3, 2019

Assocaite Professor of Anthropology Marty Otañez is contributing author to "International Labor Organization (ILO) ends tobacco industry funding" for the Tobacco Control journal blog. The work builds on over twenty years of Otañez' research and advocacy focused on tobacco industry exploitative labor practices at the farm level and strategies farm workers use to assert their labor rights. Marty and other authors state that global public health researchers and tobacco control advocates can support alternative livelihoods for tobacco farmers and farm workers, while promoting fair living earnings and fair tobacco leaf prices.
