Erik Lucero, BS 2005 with dual degrees in Physics and Electrical Engineering, is a co-author on recently published research in Nature that demonstrates quantum supremacy with a 53-qubit computer. After graduation, Lucero studied with John Martinis at the University of California Santa Barbara, and received his Ph.D. there. He is now the co-lead scientist, with Martinis, on the Google quantum computing hardware effort.
