In this interactive seminar, Osvaldo Gutierrez, PhD Professor of Chemistry at the University of Maryland College Park, will discuss on the experiences that have led him to be a successful professional and more.  Osvaldo Gutierrez is originally from Guanajuato, Mexico and grew up in the Sacramento (CA) area before finishing college at UCLA and going on to join the department of chemistry at UMCP (2016) as a Professor of chemistry.  Besides his interests in chemistry, he has been devoted to creating a diverse and inclusive environment in the STEM fields and is integrating research, education, and outreach to increase the number of underrepresented minorities in these areas. Prof. Gutierrez’s story is an example of how perseverance, hard work, and good mentorship can lead to becoming an outstanding role model.  Navigating high school, community college and universities while under DACA status and as an undocumented immigrant are only part of his path.  A short excerpt on his journey can be seen here.
