In the first week of March, Associate Professor of Anthropology Marty Otañez was an invited speaker discussing digital youth storytelling at the Youth Pre-Conference Workshop at the 17th World Conference on Tobacco or Health (WCTOH) in Cape Town, South Africa. Also, he presented "A Labor Rights-Based Approach to Tobacco Control" at a Symposium at the WCTOH. During the WCTOH, his preliminary findings on labor trafficking in Malawi's tobacco farming sector was featured in a poster presentation. And through work as board member of the Human Rights and Tobacco Control Network ( at WCTOH, Otañez and colleagues helped pass the Cape Town Declaration on Human Rights and a Tobacco-Free World.
